5:13pm Daily - Powerfully Praying Together

March 19, 2020
Church Family: In the midst of a global crisis the church can make an eternal difference during this pandemic.  We are not powerless!  In fact James 5:16, tells us that, The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

Church, let us be powerfully united in prayer.  As we are physically separated during this time of quarantine, let us come together prayerfully and call out to our all-powerful Father in heaven who gives our prayers “great power.”

As James 5:13 says, Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Well, this world is suffering right now.  So, let us join together, united prayerfully, wherever we may be at 5:13pm every day and pray together in the Spirit something like the following:

Jesus, as we have been studying in the Gospel of Luke, during Your ministry on Earth You showed Your power and caring by healing people of all ages and stations of life from physical, mental, and spiritual diseases and ailments.  Be completely present now to people who need Your loving touch because of COVID-19. May they feel Your power of healing through the care of doctors and nurses.  And please give your perfect protection to those front-line medical workers.

Father, please take away fear, anxiety, and feelings of isolation from people receiving treatment or under quarantine. Give them a sense of purpose in pursuing health and protecting others from exposure to the disease. Protect their families and friends and bring peace and comfort to all who love them.

Lord, we lift up to You individuals who are more likely than others to become severely ill from COVID-19 — the elderly and people with chronic health conditions. Protect them from harm and be their comfort in this time of uncertainty.

Holy Spirit, we seek Your wisdom daily.  Empower our POTUS, government officials and systems, and other leaders of other nations who make decisions that affect the lives and futures of our families, communities, countries, and the world.  Inspire, give knowledge and strengthen people developing better tests to diagnose the virus, vaccines to prevent it, and protocols and communication to eliminate the disease’s spread.  May truth and empathy be the foundation of people setting policies for our protection.

Prayerfully, Steve

James 5:13-16 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
