Hello Church Family:  As a body of Christ we have the important task of staying faithful to the Truth of Scripture.  One way that we can remain faithful to God’s Word is to understand the attacks that have come upon Truth of Scripture throughout history.  We can know and discern present day heresies within the Church by understanding the attacks that have come upon the Church over the past 2000 years.  We must set out to understand what are the modern forms of the attacks of Pelagianism, Arianism, Donatism, Gnosticism, and other heresies of history.  Those heresies my be foreign to you but they still exist today.  What do these look like today?  Where did they come from?  Where do they lead if one begins to accept these heresies as truth in this church?  Church history reminds us of how important it is to keep the Gospel correct and central in everything we set out to do.  We have a great privilege and challenge given to us.  The task of delivering the Gospel in tact to the next generation as God intended us.  We must get this right so that one Sunday if one of us denies the divinity of Christ or the depravity of man we will recognize this as a heresy and have a response.  Knowing the history of the Church will help us complete this task well avoiding the pitfalls of perennial heresies.  This Sunday, John Zino will be continuing his series on Church History with The Age of the Apostles (6BC-70AD) which will encourage us in delivering the Gospel to the next generation.
Acts 17:16-18 Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols. 17 So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there. 18 Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also conversed with him. And some said, “What does this babbler wish to say?” Others said, “He seems to be a preacher of foreign divinities”—because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.
I look forward to worshipping with you Sunday, Steve
Please do not forget about the Elder nominees giving their testimonies at 9am this Sunday. We will be listening and praying for those being led into the role of Eldership.
